Yeah, when you hear the two words "NY MCs", the first thing that ought to appear on your inner screen is, nothing lesser than, the mighty Wu-Tang Clan!
So, to salute these generals of the Rap-militia, let me post my top 5 of Wu tracks! Without further introduction, here's the songs!
This song is what mainstream-heads need to get blasted, real lyricism and real producin'.
#4 Wu-Tang Clan - Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthin' To Fuck With
For me, this song is not the best, but I simply loving listening to this song, the beat is off the hook, and the lyrics being broken down by the Clan is, as self proclaimed, ain't nuthin' to fuck with!
#3 Wu-Tang Clan - Protect Ya Neck
This track has got to receive lots of love, simply for putting the Wu on the rap-map!
#2 Wu-Tang Clan - Triumph
The lyrics of this track... Well, I don't have to explain, simply listen to it, and you will understand my views!
#1 Wu-Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M (Cash Rules Everything Around Me)
This is for being the only rap-classic that I would pull up if anybody asked me for a track with meaning and talent.
It might have appeared to you, that I did not use any tracks from their new album. Why? 'Cause the Wu-Tang haven't been doing the better tracks lately. But still, they're single handed (well, multi-handed) the best group of all time, in my opinion!
Let's count down the three most crucial battles in the rap-history.
Number 3 The Bridge Wars: This battle was all about representation, which is one of the biggest parts of the Hip Hop culture, wether it's grafitti, Breaking or rapping we're talking about. We had the Bronx up against the Queens. "Manhattan keeps on makin it, brooklyn keeps on takin it Bronx keeps creatin it, and queens keeps on fakin it"
Number 2 Cypress Hill Vs. Westside Connections
This battle is crucial, 'cause it really showed the effect rap had on the real life. We had Cypress H. going at WC, and all of sudden, we had the Latinoes going at the blacks in LA. Luckely, this beef was squashed, otherwise it might had resulted in an interracial war.
Number 1 The Real Roxanne Battle
This battle is not here because it resulted in any physical violence, but this battle showed, that you can sell alot more records, by adressing somebody in it!
The Winner is Ikon the Verbal Hologram, Louie Doggs the Genocide General, The Pazmanian Devil, Frank Vinatra, Vin Laden
Yup, it's Vinnie Paz of Jedi Mind Tricks and AOTP Why you might say? Well, my dear friend(s), a man's task in this world is not to kill the people, but to tell the people the truth, it is not to lie to look independent, but to swallow your pride in order to keep it with yourself. And to do this is not easy, think about it; Do you really think 50 Cent kill officers? Do you really think Hurricane Chris will stand in the clubs with no shoes on 'cause it is hot? No? Then you get me... Most "musicians" sell them self (yeah THEMSELF!) out in order to get cash easier! But Vinnie Paz keeps it real with him self, but not only there, he keeps the truth alive in this life of denials! But once again, don't trust me, judge for yourself!
AOTP - Into The Arms Of Angels (V. On the last verse)
With these spoken words, may the force be with y'all
Peace, and thanks for taking your time to read these posts!
SLUG!!! Yup, the one half of Felt (which he forms together with Mr. Murs, who's a great rapper as well) and the one half of the unbelievable Atmosphere (which is formed with the Producer Ant).
Slug is one hell of an artist. He spits consious, but not only that, he spits it with soul, spirit and talent. But don't trust me, see for your self:
Felt - Woman Tonight:
Atmosphere - Trying To Find A Balance:
You know you need to digg into his other songs, before you check the #1 spot!
My third most valuable white dude in this game must be RA Rugged Man, no doubt. If you wanna talk about dirty rap, it don't get much dirtier than this. But still, there's sense init!
First, this song is soooo nice! "They say a white boy need a black boy to win/ Uhh, Bubba Sparxxx did it, and so did Slim/ Just Blaze is hot now, why don't you get with him?/"
But, this verse is a cultural classic. Second verse on the song
"[Verse 2 - R.A. The Rugged Man]True story...Call me Thorburn, John H. Staff Sergeant, Marksman Skilling, killing, illing I'm able and willing Kill a village elephant, rapin' and pillage your village Illegitimate killers, US Military guerillas This ain't no real war, Vietnam shit World War II, that's a war, this is just a military conflict Soothing, drug-abusing, Vietnamese women screwing Sex, gambling and boozin', all the shit is amusing Bitches and guns, this is every man's dream I don't want to go home, where I'm just a ordinary human being Special OP, Huey chopper gun shit, run shit Gook run when the mini-gun spit, won't miss, kill shit Spit four-thousand bullets a minute Victor Charlie, hit trigger, hit itI'm in it to win it, get it The lieutenant hinted the villain, I've ended up killing I did it, cripple, did it, pictures I painted is vivid, live it A wizard with weapons, a secret mission we about to begin it Government funded, behind enemy lines bullets is spraying It's heating up, a hundred degrees The enemies the North-Vietnamese, bitch please Ain't no sweat, I'm told "be at ease" Until I see the pilot got hit, and we about to hit some tree still the rotor broke, crash land, American man Cambodia, right in the enemy hand Take a swig of the whiskey to calm us Them yellow men wearing black pajamas They want to harm us They all up on us Bang, bang, bullet hit my chest, feel no pain To my left, the captain caught a bullet right in his brain Body parts flying, loss of limbs, explosions Bad intentions, I see my best friend's intestins Pray to the one above, It's raining and I'm covered in mud I think I'm dying, I feel dizzy, I'm losing blood I see my childhood, I'm back in the arms of my mother I see my whole life, I see Christ, I see bright lights I see Israelites, Muslims and Christians at peace, no fights Blacks, Whites, Asians, people of all types I must have died, then I woke up, suprised I'm alive I'm in a hospital bed, they rescued me, I survived I escaped the war, came back But ain't escape Agent Orange, two of my kids born handicapped Spastic, quadriplegia, micro cephalic Cerebral palsy, cortical blindness, name it they had it My son died he ain't live, but I still try to think positive Cause in life, God take, God give
On a serious note, Eminem, hands down, he's a cultural persona. But, there are better white rappers then him out there though. Still, he his flow is off the hook, his rhymes are pretty much untouchable, lyrics are personal, that's all I'm asking for!
